Liberosis

Roles: Level & player system design

Time: 9 weeks
Team size: 3 Designers, 3 Programmers, 7 Artists

Tools: Unity Engine

Platform: PlayStation 4

Liberosis is a 3RD person platforming adventure set high up in the skies where you play as a small childlike creature trying to find a home.

The main challenge of the game is traversal with simple to slightly more complex jumping puzzles are made to emphasize a sense of calm.

My contributions

  • Player systems

    • Walking & jumping

    • The dive mechanic

    • The Vortex shot mechanic â€‹â€‹

  • Level 1

There was several other tasks that popped up along the way that I wound up taking care of, some of them being:

Player systems

The Vortex shot places a ball of wind that lets you bounce off rocks & flying islands gaining extra height & forward momentum.

This is the main mechanic of the game & synergises well with the dive which propels the player forward and homes in on any placed vortex.

The idea behind both of these mechanics was to create powerful platforming tools with a feeling of freely flowing with the wind.

Level 1

Level one or the tutorial level went through quite a few iterations, more than I can show here but with the overarching goal of teaching the player how to play the game while still providing enough points of interests & challenges to keep players interested.

To teach players how the vortex shot works we had a NPC drop a Vortex in the players path that they had to dive into, this both showed the basic functionality of the vortex and forced players to dive into it (the main way of using it) which otherwise was quite unintuitive for some players.
