Tutorial changes
Background:
The first time user experience in Legend of Solgard had a lot of forced actions with lengthy texts and little time for players to play themselves.
This led to new players having a generally poor understanding of core mechanics and a lacking early player retention.
Design process:
The first goal was to improve understanding of the game by shortening tutorial texts focusing on keywords to get the point across at a glance.

The second goal was to increase agency allowing players to build their own understanding of the game's mechanics early on by presenting multiple options instead of forcing a specific action and giving more time to experiment.

Results:
So far there is a ~9% increase in player retention from first opening the game to passing the 'first time user' sections.
​
External playtester's reactions have a clear reduction in confusion and a bit more enjoyment from the game with these changes.
​
All in all I would say the tutorial mini rework was quick, simple and effective.
